Callifest 2021.

It is a yearly event conducted by Achyut Palav School of Calligraphy where workshops, exhibitions, lectures and demonstrations around Calligraphy are conducted. This year, we are planning to take the experience online for anyone and everyone who is interested in Calligraphy and would want to learn from people across the globe!

Estelle SO is a visual artist based in France and South Korea. She is the member of the Maison des Artistes de France. She was born in South Korea and lives and works in France. She obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, a Bachelor of Arts & Cultural Management Degree and a Master of Education.

Michel D’Anastasio

Michel D’Anastasio was in born 1968 in France. He is a left-handed calligrapher, painter and graphic designer. He discovered calligraphy for the first time in 1989. A year later he started to take lessons at DUCTUS - first French calligraphic association where he met famous calligraphy masters such as Claude Mediavilla, Jean Larcher and Kitty Sabatier who became his tutors. He got befriended with various styles of occidental calligraphy (English classic, chancellery and modern style writing) and discovers basics of Chinese art of writing too. In 1993 he discovered the modern gestural style of writing -a very deliberate way of making calligraphy while taking lessons with Bernard Arin in Toulouse.

She was born in 1959 in Nara, Japan. And learned calligraphy 7 to 18 years old in Nara with leading Shoin Komatu. In 2005, The work ‘TAMASHII’ was used in Bolshoi theater, which was directed by Morihiro Iwata :1st soloist in Bolshoi theater. She founded Kanoka-kai in Fukuyama, organized exhibition every year till 2011.

Katharina Pieper

Katharina Pieper, born 1962, is a graduate designer, calligrapher, lecturer and book author. After studying communication design at the Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences, she received teaching assignments for lettering and calligraphy at different Universities of Fine Arts and Applied Sciences in Mainz, Saarbrücken, Wiesbaden, Ravensburg, Kaiserslautern and a visiting professorship in Hamburg in 1995 and 2004. Since 1991 she has been leading workshops on calligraphy around the world. Over 230 solo and group exhibitions have taken her all over the world, most recently to Russia, Korea, India and the United Arab Emirates. Her works are represented in renowned public and private collections. In 1996 she founded her own edition. Katharina has published over 12 books and catalogs so far.

Lilan Peng been teaching Chinese Calligraphy in France since 2012. Lilan Peng started learning the calligraphy at the age of 6, it was mandatory at the primary school in China at the time.

Bahman Panahi

Bahman Panahi is a visual artist, master calligrapher and musician based in Paris, creator of the contemporary art concept "Musicalligraphy". He was born in 1967 in Iran and graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Tehran University. Panahi continued his studies in the Ecole Beaux-arts de Valenciennes and then at Sorbonne University in France. The relationship between calligraphy and music led to the subject of his ongoing doctoral research on “Musicalligraphy." Panahi’s work reflects the combination of traditional and contemporary art in a carefully balanced equilibrium. Since 1998, Bahman Panahi has actively participated in international exhibitions, festivals, lectures, courses, and performances in many countries.

Achyut Palav

Achyut Palav was born and brought up in Mumbai. He completed his graduation with a specialization in typography and lettering from Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Art in the year 1982. In 1984, he did a credit thesis on the ‘Modi Script,’ which helped him earn a research scholarship from Ulka Advertising. He has also learned and worked with some of the world’s very well known calligraphers like Professor Werner Schneider from Germany and Late Shri R. K. Joshi.

A very talented yet humble person, Achyut sir’s contributions to the calligraphy world are enormous. He has won over 30 awards since the year 1992 and has worked on many art collections as well. In a world dominated by technology and the electronic medium, Achyut sir has made plenty of contributions in developing the art of calligraphy in the Indian folks. He has also demonstrated Calligraphy in Devanagari and Roman in various workshops held in India as well as around the globe.
