Poha.

Kanda poha is a popular Maharashtrian breakfast made from flattened rice, herbs and spices. It is now fairly popular across the country. 

You can usually have it for breakfast or as an evening snack. 

It goes best with green chutney and sev on top.

 

Ingredients:

  • Poha (thick) 1 cup
  • Turmeric ½ tbsp
  • Lemon juice 2 tbsp
  • Crushed peanuts 2 tbsp
  • Curry leaves 4-5 nos.

 

For masala:

Ingredients: 

  • Refined sunflower oil 2 tbsp  
  • Mustard seeds 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds 1 tbsp
  • Curry leaves 4-5 nos.
  • Chopped onion 1 cup
  • Chopped potato 1 cup
  • Peanuts ½ cup
  • Turmeric powder ½ tbsp
  • Chopped green chilli 1 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder ½ tbsp
  • Kabuli compound hing ½ tbsp
  • Salt ½ tbsp

 

For garnish:

Ingredients:

  • Grated coconut – handful
  • Sev (thin) – handful
  • Chopped onion and coriander – handful
  • Lemon wedge
