It’s aptly said, “Women are the most beautiful and powerful creation of God.” They hold the immense power to create, encourage, empower and lead. Without the shadow of any doubt, I believe all women are exemplary in their own unique ways. Our history and the media are proof of it.
So What Exactly Is Women Empowerment?
Women empowerment is the process of letting women have full control over the decisions they make in life and supporting them by providing access to opportunities and chances.
The ideology of women empowerment is to decrease or maybe eradicate the drift created between the two genders and erase the phenomenon of gender inequality.
Women empowerment is a vast term, which also comes with significant responsibilities like assistance in providing quality education to women and generally upliftment of the status of the women in the society. All in all, it can be coined as a process for the welfare and betterment of women.
Why Do We Need To Empower Our Women?
The differences and inequalities amongst men and women have been an old age issue. People tend to neglect it by saying, “Oh, it’s been like that since forever,” but what we, as a society, have been failing to understand is how grave this situation has become. This is precisely why we need to empower our women.
The quest for women to be as equal, accepted as any other man is what leads us to this process. Let me quickly give you some statistics which will make the need for women empowerment more transparent.
According to the U.N Development Program, women account for 66% of the world’s working hours but surprisingly only 10% of the world’s income.
Another astonishing fact states that out of the 900 million illiterate adults worldwide, two-thirds are women.
How Can We Empower Women?
Women empowerment isn’t a one-day process. It is a long-term, detailed and analytical process that has been gaining steam gradually. The pace of this process is very subjective, but the bigger question is how we can empower women?
There are umpteen ways in which we can empower women—starting from placing women in positions where they hold power to make vital and important decisions. This will help them gain financial stability and go a long way in making women feel empowered. This includes ideas like investments in women’s entrepreneurial ideas, creating a pool of job opportunities for them, mentoring them in all the ways possible, and everything that comes under its umbrella.
Another aspect of empowering women can be helping them fight against any sort of injustice. This is the least we can do in terms of empowering women. Standing up with them against the wrongs will be moral support to them and will make them stronger. And well, isn’t this what empowerment would mean?
Last but surely not least, women should be empowered and celebrated. Women’s Day, observed on the 8th of March every year, is a day where women are honored, celebrated, and awarded for their exemplary achievements. Women across the globe celebrate this Day, and yes, it is just another way we can honor and make these beautiful creations of God feel loved and safe.
When Was The First-Ever Women’s Day Celebrated?
The first-ever women’s Day was observed on the 28th of February circa 1848 when the Socialist Party of America honored the women workers who went on strike and protested against the poor working conditions. This is where the journey of celebrating or having such a day on the calendar started.
Here’s how the bigger picture of women’s Day and its empowerment came into existence, and each day has been a battle fought towards the goal. It has undoubtedly come a long way, but there’s still so much more to be done.
